I remember explicitly Saturday evening 11/11 last year. Dad was not coherant at all. I asked Joyce to please come to visit him. I told her that I knew he would love to see her even if he couldn't show it. She said that she would stop over with Don and Lorraine, (their best friends). I went to his bed and told him that Joyce was coming to see him. He woke right up with the brightest eyes and said "today?" I said "yes Dad, in a little while." I couldn't believe that he responded like that. He seemed so excited and when they arrived he was waiting and wide awake. More alert than he had been in weeks. He listened to Joyce talk about all the trips they had gone on and the fun times they had, and watching him I could see that he was happy and was really listening to every word. She kept asking him. "Do you remember?" His bright blue eyes were shining. He said "yes" more than once. It really was someting to see and I'm so grateful that I was there to see it. I went home and told David that after being with someone for weeks who couldn't barely speak or open his eyes, it was just amazing how he woke up in the presence of Joyce. David asked me if I had told that to her. I don't think I ever did but I hope that she knows now.
