This letter was sent from an old friend of Dads. He sent it to the funeral home and asked them to forward it to me since he didn't know my address. I found it to be comforting. Dear Mrs. Nicholson, I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing, I am an old high school friend. I read of his obituary in the Taunton Gazette, that's where I got your name. Joe and I used to chum around together. We had many adventures together. We didn't have much money but we had good fun times, now that I look back. I am also 79 years old. In the summer, we would thumb rides to Cape Cod on weekends, and go to "Swifts Beach" in Wareham. That was the "in" place to go then we would spend the night on the beach or in the car. One night we spent in the back of a bakers truck on the floor, washed up in the water on the beach about 6AM. Once we took a quart of milk off a porch for our breakfast. NO money. One September before school started about 8 of us hired a cottage on Martha's Vineyard for a week. We worked all summer and saved for this vacation. Joe and I played for the "Italian Club" in a twilight league team. In 1944 or 45 three of us tried to enlist in the navy. During WWII. Red Ryan, Joe Walsh, and Bob Hogan, me. Joe Walsh's name brought back many memories. Thank You, Bob Hogan
